A 54-year-old woman with a history of Crohn’s Disease,
and drug and alcohol abuse was admitted with complaints of fatigue and
abdominal pain on 12/31/2001. She became lethargic and
ultimately unresponsive requiring intubation complicated by pneumonia culture positive for Staphylococcus
aureus. She was started on Rocephin, Zithromax and Nafcillin. Three days later she became hypotensive with
increasing abdominal pain and was transferred to the Intensive
Care Unit.
