The patient's white blood cell count jumped from 7000 to 15,000 on 01/13/2002. She became febrile to 40 degrees C. Liver failure progressed with markedly elevated AST & ALT and renal failure developed. She became jaundiced.

She underwent re-evaluation for possible sources of infection with a full body CT scan. Free air was noted in the abdomen.
