The patient is a 43 year old male with a long history of alcohol abuse who was admitted on 01/07/2004 with an abscess of the para-spinal region of the back following external fixation of multiple compression fractures due to a motor vehicle accident. Upon admission, the patient was found to be hypotensive. Aspiration of the wound on his back showed a large amount of pus. The patient was started on broad spectrum antibiotics and an incision and drainage was performed.

An X ray pf the spine and hardware fixation revealed no evidence of osteomyelitis.
