The patient is a 27 year old female with a history of spina bifida, neurogenic bladder and diabetes mellitus who presented to her general practitioner on 5-30-02. She became febrile, lethargic and irritable over the course of several days and her chronic back pain became notably worse. On the evening of 6-1-02 the patient was transported to the Hospital after being unable to stand or walk upon waking.
