Quick Guide to Using the Resources The following page is a quick guide to using the CasePath web-based labs. If you have any questions or concerns regarding this guide please contact Dr. Juliana Szakacs. To begin, insert the CasePath CD or go to www.casepath.org. If you are using a windows-based computer, the main index page should automatically load in your default web browser. If you have trouble auto loading the page from a CD or you are using an apple-based machine, open the CD from the desktop and double-click on "index.htm". When you reach the main page the list of the organ systems will be on the left. To access the cases associated with each organ system click on the name of the organ system. The next page that loads contains general information regarding the organ system and links to individual cases. On the left side of the page, click on the case you intend to study. Part 1 of the selected case will appear. Each case generally consists of 4 to 6 sequential parts. For each part, read the text, view the lab data and images, and answer the questions based on your observations. To access images, click on the thumbnails and a larger version of the image will open in a new window. If you are using Windows XP and MS Internet Explorer, images are automatically sized to the width of your screen. If you want to "zoom in" and see the full-size image, hold your cursor over the image for 3-4 seconds and a small icon will appear in the lower right corner of the image. Click on the icon to load a full size version of the image. To close the image window, click the X in the top right corner of the window or, if you are using a windows-based computer, use your keyboard to click and hold the alt key and press the F4 key. The text is sizable by holding down the ctrl button and scrolling the mouse or adjusting the text size under "view" and "text sizer" on the top of the screen. The complete versions of the case materials are provided in a link from the last part of each case. These materials contain all the pertinent notes, EKGs, labs and X-rays on the case, similar to using the electronic medical record of the hospital. Additional links on the left side of all case pages will allow you to navigate to the organ system index, main index, lab reference values or outside resources. If you are accessing this site through the WWW you may use the search function. Insert a key word or phrase to pull up cases associated with the key terms. |
