The patient requested hospice care and was discharged in stable condition to a rehab center for pain management.
On 6-28-03 the patient was admitted for fever, acute mental status changes with hallucinations and shortness of breath. ABG's showed: pH of 7.43, CO2 of 36, O2 of 64 and O2 saturations above 90 on 4 liters of oxygen.
The patient became increasingly disoriented and his shortness of breath increased, he died within 24 hours of admission.
An autopsy was performed.
