He had been a heavy drinker/smoker in the past and also had used illicit drugs. He first complained of back pain in April of 2000 and was treated with massage and NSAIDs but the pain progressed and he eventually developed jaundice. In the fall of 2001 the patient was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and was treated with a Whipple procedure.
