The patient expired 10 months later.

Autopsy revealed a cachetic man appearing older than his stated age. The small bowel had been surgically altered to create a Roux-en-Y loop. There was a firm, white tumor mass encasing and compressing the root of the superior mesenteric artery resulting in necrosis of the small bowel and proximal portion of the colon, which were filled with blood. Sections through the liver, adrenal glands, lung, and a periaortic lymph nodes showed metastatic adenocarcinoma.
