The patient expired 10 months later.
Autopsy revealed a cachetic man appearing older than his
stated age. The small bowel had been surgically altered to create a Roux-en-Y
loop. There was a firm, white tumor mass
encasing and compressing the root of the superior mesenteric artery resulting in necrosis
of the small bowel and proximal portion of the colon, which were filled
with blood. Sections through the liver, adrenal glands, lung, and a periaortic
lymph nodes showed metastatic adenocarcinoma.
