An autopsy was performed.

At autopsy, the patient was a cachectic and jaundiced male appearing older than his stated age.
Numerous metastases were noted in the liver. The tumor cells were arranged in nodules and occupied approximately 90% of the hepatic parenchyma.
He was found to have a poorly differentiated malignant neoplasm on the greater curvature of his stomach.
Invasive tumor cells were seen traversing the gastric muscularis.
Higher power view of the tumor in the gastric wall.
Malignant tumor cells similar to those in the stomach were seen microscopically in the liver.
