|
Description of Research: ACL reconstruction often employs the use of the medial hamstrings as a free graft. Semitendinosis and gracilis tendons are harvested leaving the remaining muscle to either retract, scar to adjacent muscles, or reform a neotendon that may allow continued function of the muscle. At one year, the fate of these muscles is variable. MRI evaluation has demonstrated near complete atrophy in some muscles, with preserved size in others. This study will evaluate the fate of these muscles at 7-10 years following hamstring ACL reconstruction. MRI techniques will determine the volume and fatty content of these muscles to better delineate the long term consequences of hamstring harvest. Does this research involve human subjects or animals? Yes If yes, what is the protocol number? 00031753 11/2008 |
