Research Title: Identifying New Host Antiviral Genes

Description of Research:

Mammalian cells have evolved an extensive array of defense mechanisms against viruses. Our laboratories study how the hepatitis C virus alters these pathways and gene expression in human cells and tissues to establish a chronic infection and severe desease in some patients. This research includes viral and host genetics, new approaches to identify new diagnostic and treatment response biomarkers, and model systems to determinie the function of newly identified genes.
