|
Research Description: We have 2 projects where zebrafish are used to study T cell leukemia & lymphoma. In both, we use fish with fluorescent tumors to monitor onset (and cure) of disease. In the 1st project, we created 3 mutant lines prone to T cell cancers. We are cloning these lines\' underlying mutations, as well as studying their cellular DNA methylation patterns, RNA expression profiles, and genomic amplfications & deletions found in their malignant cells. The 2nd project tests investigational chemotherapies in fish with T cell malignancy. Using the 3 mutants above, plus a 4th where MYC causes disease, we are studying whether we can screen experimental drugs by simply adding them to water where the fish live. Because tumors are \'glow\', successes are easily recognized by the disappearance of fluorescence. Both projects have several aspects where a medical student could contribute. Does this research involve human subjects or animals? Yes If yes, what is the protocol number? 08-08005 10/2009 |
