Joshua Cook, M.D. PGY-1 AP/CP Track
Josh was born in Salt Lake City and tripled majored at the University of Utah in 1998 in physics, chemistry and mathematics. Upon competition he entered the US Navy as a Nuclear Engineering officer stationed in Hawaii and completed training leading to a Master’s degree in Nuclear Engineering while in the Navy. While traveling in New Zealand Josh was offered a spot in the medical school at the University of Auckland which he accepted. After graduating from medical school in November of 2008, Josh has been researching neuroendocrine tumors at Weill Cornell Medical College. Josh and his wife Christa are excited to move back to Salt Lake City.
Anna Matynia, M.D. PGY-1 AP/CP Track
Anna was born in Starachowice, Poland. She attended medical school at Jagiellonski University in Cracow, Poland. Before graduating in 2005, Anna completed part of her training in Rome, Italy under a Socrates/Erasmus Program scholarship. Anna completed a one-year transitional year program in Cracow in 2007, and has been working at the University of Alabama-Birmingham as a research technician under Peter Kulesza, M.D., Ph.D. Anna and her husband Dave are very excited to move to Utah and explore the hiking and rock climbing opportunities of Southern Utah.
Krishna Narra, M.D. PGY-1 AP/CP Track
Krishna was born in Ongole, India. He graduated from Gandhi Medical College India in 2000 and completed an intern year in 2001. Krishna then attended the University of Utah and graduated in 2008 with a Masters in biochemistry. Krishna and his wife Kavita are ecstatic to be staying in Salt Lake City and for Krishna to start residency.
Robert Schmidt, M.D., Ph.D., MBA PGY-1 AP/CP Track
Bob was born in Akron, Ohio and has lived all over the United States. His Bachelor’s degree in chemistry/biology is from the University of Washington, Masters in biochemical engineering from MIT, MBA from the University of Chicago, Ph.D. in operations management from the University of Virginia and Masters in cell biology and molecular genetics from the University of Chicago. Bob was an Associate Professor in the MBA program at the University of Southern California for six years before moving to Australia. He completed medical school at the University of Sydney in 2006 followed by a transitional year and one-year pathology residency, both in Australia. Bob and his wife Marianne are thrilled to move to Salt Lake and enjoy the “Greatest Snow on Earth”
Brian Hall, M.D. PGY-2 AP/CP Track
Brian majored in Biology from Kansas State University in 2004. Brian graduated from the University of Kansas School of Medicine in 2008. He has been in the Pathology Residency Program at Saint Louis University this year, and will begin his PGY-2 year with us July 1st. Brian is an avid runner and is excited to explore Utah.
Nahla Heikal, M.D. PGY-1 CP-Only Track
Nahla was born in Kuwait. She attended medical school at Ain Shams University in Egypt in 1994, and completed a clinical pathology residency at the University of Cairo in 1999. Nahla worked as a Clinical Pathologist in Egypt before she and her family moved to the United States. Nahla is currently an Immunology fellow at the University of Utah Department of Pathology/ARUP Laboratories and will graduate in June and is looking forward to starting her residency.
