Welcome Dr. Shashirekha Shetty

We are excited to welcome a new addition to the Pathology Department, Dr. Shashirekha Shetty!  Dr. Shetty received her Ph.D. from the University of Mumbai, L.T.M. Medical College, in Microbiology where she also received her Master of Science degree.  The focus of her Ph.D. research was on aspects of microbial teratogens in bad obstetric history cases and developing methods for prenatal diagnosis of chromosomal disorders. Dr. Shetty was admitted for the European Diploma in Molecular Cytogenetics, the University of Auvergne, Faculty of Medicine, Clermont Ferrand, France and received her Diploma in Molecular Cytogenetics.  She completed her Post-Doctoral Fellowship at the Manitoba Institute of Cell Biology, University of Manitoba, Manitoba, Canada, where she worked with Dr. Spencer Gibson in his laboratory to identify the mechanism of death receptor 5-gene regulation in epithelial derived breast cancer cells.

Dr. Shetty continued her research at the University of Calgary, Alberta Children’s Hospital with the focus on the study of balanced chromosome rearrangements (BCRs) in children with developmental delay or other congenital anomalies, and other areas of interest include genetics of chronic lymphocytic leukemia and atypical lipomatous tumors.  She completed her training with the Canadian College of Medical Geneticists (CCMG) afterward, she was offered a position as an Assistant Professor of Medical Genetics at the Faculty of Medicine, Department of Medical Genetics and a cross appointment with the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine, University of Calgary, Canada.  She is a Canadian-certified and an American-boarded clinical cytogeneticist. 

Early this year Dr. Shetty moved, with her family, to Utah and ARUP to accept a position as an Assistant Professor in our department as well as Medical Director, Cytogenetics & Molecular Cytogenetics at ARUP Laboratories.  We are thrilled to have Dr. Shetty become a part of our great department!
