Welcome Dr. Brian Collins, M.D.
The Cytopathology division of ARUP has recently received a new addition. We would like to welcome Dr. Brian Collins to the Department of Pathology and ARUP.
Dr. Collins received his Undergraduate Biology Degree and his Medical Degree both from the University of Missouri-Kansas City in 1986 and 1988, respectively.
He began his postdoctoral work in internal medicine at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation in Ohio for a year and while there, he decided he preferred Clinical and Anatomic Pathology. This sent him to the Indiana University School of Medicine for his AP/CP residency, where he served as chief resident during his final year. He participated in the AP/CP program as a 5th year cytology fellowship experience at Indiana University.
Dr. Collins began his private practice in Fort Wayne, Indiana for a year and a half before deciding that he was much more interested in cytology, academics and research. At that time, he was extended a job offer at Saint Louis University School of Medicine working in Anatomic Pathology with focus in Cytopathology. From 1997, he served as the medical director of the cytopathology laboratory and as director of the cytopathology fellowship program at Saint Louis University.
After serving in that capacity for twelve years, Dr. Collins decided he was in need of a change. “I wanted to reinvigorate, meet new people and develop new strengths.” He was drawn to the University of Utah and ARUP. Last September, he and his family moved to Utah and he was hired as Medical Director of Cytopathology at ARUP and Professor of Pathology. He has recently received ACGME approval for a new cytopathology fellowship program in the Department of Pathology and ARUP. His main research emphasis is in Fine Needle Aspiration (FNA) Biopsy, which he has found includes interesting and diverse diseases.
We welcome Dr. Collins to the University of Utah and ARUP. We know he will make a great addition to our fantastic department.
